Spicy Potato Curry

Potatoes are my absolute favorite, they are versatile and staple is almost every kitchen. This curry is my go-to recipe for a quick spicy homely food. This recipe is spicy and tangy, the tomatoes add a great flavor to this recipe.

Lets get started, this recipe serves 2-3


  • Boiled potatoes 3-4
  • tomatoes 2
  • Green Chili – 1-2 (Depends on how much spiciness you want in curry)
  • Ginger 1 knob
  • Salt- As per taste
  • Red chili Powder- Half Spoon (Adjust as per your taste)
  • Turmeric Powder- 1/4 spoon
  • Dry Mango Powder/ Tamarind Paste/ Lemon Juice – Half spoon
  • Mustard Seeds- 1/4 spoon
  • Hing (Asafoetida) – A pinch
  • Oil- 2-3 spoons
  • Fresh coriander 1 spring


  1. Cut or break boiled potatoes into big pieces
  2. Puree Tomatoes, green chili and ginger
  3. Mix red chili powder and turmeric powder in a little water
  4. Heat oil in pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter, then ass hing
  5. Immediately add red chili and turmeric paste and let it cook on simmer for 1-2 sec
  6. Add Tomato puree, and let it cook on simmer until done (5-10 Min)
  7. Add in potatoes and a cup of water (Adjust more water if needed, you don’t want it runny)
  8. Let it simmer covered for 5-10 min
  9. Add Coriander leaves and give it a mix
  10. Spicy potato curry is ready to be served as a side for Roti, Naan , Puri or rice
